Calls that belong to the conversation

In Consort, every channel and direct message can hold a call, and the call knows who belongs in it.

  • The conversation is the room

    Only people in a channel or direct message can join its call. Your server checks, not the app, and every pass into a call is short-lived and good for that room alone.

  • Calls stay in the app

    A call opens inside Consort, not in a new tab. Minimize it or drag it aside and keep reading while you talk.

  • See who’s talking

    The sidebar shows who is in each channel’s call and who is speaking, as it happens. In a direct message, the conversation shows who has joined.

  • Moderation follows your roles

    A channel’s admins can mute or remove people in its calls. Nobody else can.

Channels for talking, not just typing

Text channels keep discussions organized into topics. A voice channel is built around its call, and its text can be switched off entirely. A lounge holds small rooms that people drop into and out of, public or private, with guests let in at the door.

Apps for desktop and mobile

Consort works in any modern browser. The apps add what a browser tab can’t.

Run it yourself in one command

On any machine with Docker, Consort sets up chat and calls together, generates every secret, checks that it all works, and gives you an address and a password.
